-My Compositions and Arrangements

I am by no means an experienced composer, but I have a handful of tunes that I've written and a couple of pieces that I've arranged.

Electronic music
Vectorization
A short electronic sounding piece written for the background music in a UT2004 map (yet to be published). The music is a WIP, it only has two voices at the moment and has some relatively awkward transitions, but I think the themes and some of the development sounds good.

Coconut Zero
One night I misread something online as "Coconut Zero" and decided that would be a great name for a song. I wrote down a beat and over the next two days wrote this piece. It is written for melodic woodblock and vibraphone, but neither part is playable by a single person as at times there is 6+ voices at once on an instrument. This is the final version, I don't expect this to be played on actual instruments.
Coconut Zero - Final Version - 5/19/2008

Void Temple Soundtrack
Written for my UT3 map and MSUC submission DM-VoidTemple. This piece does not actually exist in the map, because of the way unreal dynamically creates its music during game play, much of this piece is used in the map. The endin section of this piece doesn't exist in the game and in the game version there are additional short bits of music for sound effects.

Small Ensemble Music
Oppie's Theme
Written as a theory miniature assignment, this short brass trio piece is based on a simple 3 note motive. The name and subject matter came when planning the piece; I wanted to write a theme song for a famous person in history and started asking around for random interesting people to write about. Someone mentioned Robert Oppenheimer, so I read up on him a little and wrote out this piece.
Oppie's Theme - Final - 5/30/2007

Contemplations for wind trio
Written again for a theory class, this one the semester before Oppie's Theme. This piece is a 3 part work for wind trio (clar, oboe, bsn) in a contrapuntal style. It is through-composed and has three distinct types of music but no real theme or melody for the most part. This midi sequence does not have dynamic markings, so it doesn't sound amazing.
Contemplations - Final (MIDI Version) - 5/30/2007

Stupor
Another theory class miniature, this one is a violin solo with piano accompaniment. To write this piece I took a very different stance, I wrote out a sequence of intrevals on piano, then varied the sequence and patterns to approximately the length of the piece. I then added the solo and melody line in on the violin after deciding the piano part reminded me of a drunken stupor, thus the title and the uncertain sound of the music. This is another direct midi recording.
Stupor - Final (MIDI Version) - 5/30/2007

The Bird, the Baboon, and the Seven Story Badger
The final miniature for my final semester of theory, I decided to write something a little more varied. Scored for two bassoons, contrabassoon, and voice narration, the piece tells the silly and pointless story of a gathering in the forest. Each instrument takes an animal's theme, and the narration supports their interaction and sound. The 2008 revision features some harmony changes in the end section, a couple of word changes, and a drastically improved score and set of parts. It was premiered as part of my Junior recital, and can be heard here:

Jazz Tunes
Devil's Crossroads
A requirement for my first jazz theory and improv class, this short little tune is in a basic 12 bar blues form with a few chord changes. It's got an easy melody and 4 choruses of solo were composed along with it for the project. The download is for the lead sheet.
Devil's Crossroads Lead Sheet - 11/09/2008

Tiptoe
A requirement for my jazz first theory and improv class, this tune is based off of the basic Bb rhythm changes and has been described as "cute". The download is for the lead sheet.

Arrangements
Bohemian Rhapsody for Bassoon Quintet
My first full bassoon ensemble arrangement, written down a step from the original key to make some high notes in the solo more manageable. This arrangment opts out of singing for the sweet sound of five bassoons in harmony.

The Devil Went Down to Maryland for Bassoon Quartet
My second bassoon ensemble arrangment and a featured piece on my final undergraduate recital. This arrangement is of Charlie Daniels's The Devil Went Down to Georgia complete with written out solos and singing. I made an effort to keep as many of the lyrics the same that I could, but rewrote some of them to fit a bassoon ensemble playing in maryland.
